Scope and content
Students of the State University in Harare during a lecture break. They are among the happy inhabitants of a new students hostel. A modern hostel complex for some 4,000 students is presently under construction. The learning conditions could already be improved through the opening of a new lecture hall with 400 seats. Furthermore, the foundation-stone for a veterinary-medical faculty was laid. Once, the university was built for some 1,800 children from the country's white upper stratum, in the main. Since the achievement of the independence, the number of students has raised to 4,200 - three quarters of them coming from the black majority of the population. By the end of the decade, the number is intended to be increased to 7,000 through enlargement of the facilities.
