People's Democratic Republic of Yemen: Port of Aden modernized

Modernization works in the port of Aden, capital of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, are planned to be finished by the end of this decade. At present, nearly all ships must still be lightened. Small boats transport the freight from ships, which are at ankor in the roads, to the ports. The first new quays are scheduled to be completed this year.

Founded by British colonialists in 1880, the port was fully controlled by the British government for its strategic importance as transshipment and bunkering place on the way to the ports in the Indian Ocean.

In October 1983, the citizens of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen celebrated the 20th anniversary of their revolution.
