At the Frankfurt Motor Show Volkswagen announced details of an agreement with Nissan Motors of Tokyo. The two manufacturers have agreed to collaborate on the new Volkswagen Santana (photo). From October 1983 the four door using Santana will be assembled at Nissan's Zama Works using engines, gear boxes and chassis parts from the Federal Republic of Germany. It will be marketed by Nissan. Volkswagen are also expanding production in the United States, where the VW Jetta will soon be running off the assembly line in Pennsylvania.
