Scope and content

Aircraft carrier launches itself.
This striking photograph was taken today shortly after the new 23,000 aircraft-carrier H.M.S. FORMIDABLE broke away half-an-hour before LADY WOOD, wife of the Air Minister, was to launch her at Belfast. One woman was killed by the hurtling baulks of timber and 20 people were injured. A huge cradle was rent to pieces and flung in all directions, dozens of workmen raced for their lives when the vessel began to move.
PHOTO SHOWS:- The vessel sliding down into the water on her own, while huge timber structures are flung aside.
