The accident seriously injured 48 persons. The drivers from Alutgama and Kalutara were rushed to the General Hospital Colombo in critical condition. An eye witness told the "Mirror" that the accident occurred when a jeep from a by road suddenly proceeded to the Galle Road without taking precautionary measures, The CTB bus which was proceeding to Kalutara took a sharp turn to the right to avoid knocking the jeep and had a headlong collision with the bus that was proceeding to Colombo. Both Buses were reduced to matchwood. P.S Weerasinghe, P.C Godahewa of Kalutara North police are conducting investigations.
