Three laborers died shortly after admission to hospital while 28 others were warded with serious injuries they received when an open lorry of the department of food control in which they were travelling overturned after striking a traffic island near the Parsons Road, Roundabout.
The dead men are K.D. David, Jinadasa and Swaris. Three others were operated on immediately after admission and their condition is reported to be critical. The 28 warded were: W.V Appuhamy, H.A Wijedasa, J. Baron Singho, K.A Robert, S. Mohamed, Joseph Silva Arumugam, A.A Sumanadasa, S.A.V Perera, S.A Alpenis Appu William, Naganathan, H.A Gunaratne, J.L.P Punchi Singho, N.A Sarlis, A. Ashir, M.A Jabbar, A.Vellasamy, B.P Pieris, H.A Simon, G.D William, W.S Somapala, B.Peter, K.G.J Appuhamy and two others unidentified.
The alledged driver of the lorry, B.P Pieris of Batuwandewa who was also injured is under Police guard at the Colombo, General Hospital, Colombo.
