Drifter hits Sandsank and sinks at Lowestoft.
Leaving Lowestoft (Suffolk) for the herring grounds after the strike of drifter crews for seamen's rations, the drifter 'Helen Ann' of Banff, Scotland, struck a sandbank and was holed. She only just reached harbor before sinking. The crew escaped in the ship's boat.
This was the skipper's first visit to Lowestoft since before the War, and in the meantime the sandbanks had shifted.
