Repair gangs of the Ways and Works Department of the Ceylon Government Railway are busy repairing the breach to the track between Bandarawela and Badulla — the Demodera loop — which was washed away in an earth slip recently.
On one side is a huge rock, and on the other, a 200-foot chasm — where the landslide occurred. The track is hanging in space.
Ton upon top of ballast rubble is rolled down the chasm without effect. The officers are now exploring the possibility of blasting rock and diverting the line.
