Scope and content
The owner of the Aintree race course where the Grand National was run had prohibited bookmakers inside the course from passing on information to colleagues outside with a view to beating the ban imposed on them, but the bookies hoped to get over the difficulty by using their tic-toc methods. Last Friday the 'Blower' boys on the race course scored a victory against the owner of the course and pulled off a sensational hoax to do it. The tic-toc men were to be seen on top of the stand roof appearing to be telephoning the 'Blower' boys operating the telephone at a private house in neighbouring Omskirk Road, while in actual fact the 'Blower' men reading the signals given from the top of the stand roof by tic-toc men, from the garden of the house in Omskirk Road.
