"A Plot, Says Taniya"
Singer Tania Velia, former Miss Yugoslavia, who is in London to appear in cabaret, said she believed she had foiled a plot to get her back behind the Iron Curtain. Tania, 24, escaped from Yugoslavia in 1955 while at an international swimming match at Graz, Austria. She now lives in New York. She said that when she arrived at Frankfurt, Germany, on her way to London, two Yugoslavs told her that her mother would meet her in Paris. Tania said she flew to Paris with the two men, then at the airport she phoned Zagreb, Yugoslavia. She found her mother was still there -- so she took the plane to London. Said Tania: "it was obviously a trick. I think the two men were trying to get me to return to Yugoslavia with them eventually."
