Scope and content

The jagged ends of the tail-piece and the twisted propeller mark the spot where a luxury Solent flying boat owned by Aquila Airlines crashed, last night, in mist, killing the crew of 8 and 35 passengers; while 15 seriously injured were taken to hospital; the plane landed, exploding, in a chalk pit at Chessel Down. Rescuers rushed to the spot, and dragged people from the flames until firemen arrived.
