A stationary train loaded with limestone at the Puttalam cement factory grounds suddenly drove backwards and derailed before the limestone loaded wagons toppled on top of one another. The wagons moved backwards a few miles passing the Palaviya railway station and ended up blocking the Palaviya-Kalpitiya main road, obstructing the traffic. The investigations are being carried out to uncover the mystery of how the stationary train, that had no engine and was braked, moved backwards on its own.
