Mr. M.D.H. Jayawardane, Minister of Health, opening the bakery at the Angoda Mental Hospital yesterday evening. Looking on are Mr. Wesley D. Johnson, Attache of the US Embassy, and Mr. David Jack, Director of CARE. The bakery has been built with a donation of Rs. 100,000 by CARE.
Mr. Jayawardane said he was looking forward to a better future for the mental health services when the Government reorganised them shortly.
Once production at the hospital expanded it would be possible to supply neighbouring hospitals, too, with bread.
He added that steps would be taken to set up clinics in the Colombo, Galle and Jaffna hospitals. The Kandy hospitals would have a clinic in January.
Mr. Johnson said CARE's efforts at Angoda were typical of its activities throughout the world.
Dr. W.S. Jayasinghe presided.
