On board the H. M. S. Gambia, now in Trincomalee, is the grand-son of Haile Selassie, Emperor of Ethiopia. He is Mid-shipman Desta-Lij Alexander Desta, who completed his officer-cadet training at Dartmouth Naval College, in 1954. Mid-shipman, Desta fights shy of press cameramen but is a keen cameraman himself. he has a miniature camera, the size of a cigarette lighter, which he uses often, on board.
