"Old World Dignity of a Modern Princess"
In the presence of the Royal Family, members of the Government and the two chambers of Parliament and the Diplomatic Corps, King Gustav of Sweden formally opened the Swedish Parliament (the Riksdag) in the Throne Hall of the Royal Castle, Stockholm.
King Gustav, now in his 89th year, read the traditional speech from the Throne for the 40th time since his succession. Besides Britain, Sweden is the only country in the world which has a ceremonial opening of Parliament on the grand scale.
Photo shows:- Scene of regal dignity as Crown Princess Louise (wife of Crown Prince Gustav Adolf of Sweden and sister of Lord Mountbatten) arrived at the Throne Hall for the ceremony, her ermine-trimmed train borne by two attendants. Behind is seen Princess Sibylla (wife of Prince Gustav Adolf, son of the Crown Prince and Princess).
