A "New Dealer", Mr. Acheson was a lawyer who gave up a practice worth about £25,000 a year to work on the Nation's administration. His sacrifice for the good of the State was believed to have been inherited from his Canadian mother and his English father who became an American bishop. All over Washington Mr. Acheson is known as "The Dean".
