As a result of the heavy rains that occurred recently, sixty seven workers' ouses in the State-owned Meddegedera estate at Matugama have been severely damaged. A sum of Rs. 50,000 was donated by the Estate Workers' Union as relief for the families occupying the houses. Mr. Gamini Dissanayake, Minister of Lands, Land Development, and Mahaweli Development, who is the President of the Lanka Jathika Estate Workers Union, visited the homes of the workers affected, inquired into their problems and gave Rs. 1,000 to each family.
