After being understudy to Mr. W. A. Chandrasena for over five years, Mr. D. T. Jayawardene has taken over the reins of office as General Secretary of the Mercantile Amateur Athletic Association.
As Assistant Secretary of the M. A. A. A., he was greatly instrumental in conducting the annual track and field championships of the association.
He was selected as manager of the Mercantile team for dual contest with the Bangalore Eagles. The contest however has been postponed.
As general secretary of the association, which besides conducting track and field meets, has allied activities such as tennis, netball, basketball, and swimming, Mr. Jayawardene will have much work to do.
