Mohamed Falil, a railway porter, his wife and four little children escaped injury yesterday morning when the main living room of his tenement in Dematagoda Road collapsed, breaking into smithereens his furniture and cooking utensils.
The four children were playing on the verandah when the walls of the living room collapsed, because of heavy rain.
Falil had just returned after night duty and was resting in an easy chair on the verandah when the walls and roof collapsed. His wife had gone to a boutique to buy provisions.
"If it happened an hour earlier my whole family would have been crushed to death" he told a "Times of Ceylon" reporter.
