Following a pattern set by Soviet Russia, the rulers of Communist China are speeding up plans to place all of the nation's 100,000,000 farm families on state-owned and controlled collective farms. According to Liao Lu-yan, deputy chief of the agricultural division of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee, Mao Tse Tung is determined on the complete collectivization of the country's agricultural land within 10 years. Today only two percent of Chinese farmers are members of collectives, despite the efforts of the Communists to win their support.
The final stage is the establishment of the large collective farm utilizing mechanized equipment. The farmers have become employees of the State and they derive no benefit from the production increases through use mechanized equipment. Much of the additional food grown must be shipped to Soviet Russia to pay for arms and industrial goods.
