Major Gherman Titov, Russia's "space-flier" hero, received an enthusiastic welcome when he attended the Youth Organisation gathering in Berlin during his tour of East Germany.
Major Titov, accompanied by his wife, was made an Honorary Member of the "Ernst Thalmann" Pioneers and was decorated with the highest award of the Youth Organisation — the Arthur Becker Gold Medal.
