Two dramatic pictures showing the last moments in the life of the ill-fated American freighter Flying Enterprise. At top the vessel is seen keeling over flat with the mast touching the water, while below the bows of the vessel are about to be submerged. An escort vessel steams close by. Packing cases and bales litter the angry waters, part of the Flying Enterprise's cargo which heroic Captain Carlsen tried so much to save. A short time before these pictures were taken Captain Carlsen and Mr. Kenneth Dancy, mate of the Turmoil, had leaped overboard from the stricken freighter's funnel and were picked up by the Turmoil.
