Five killed as ship blazes in mid Atlantic.
Five passengers lost their lives and four more persons were seriously injured when the Swedish cargo ship 'Kristina Thorden' (3,889 tons) caught fire in mid-Atlantic when on a voyage from Gothenburg, Sweden, to Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A.
The Norwegians-American liner 'Stavangerfjord' went to her assistance and took off passengers.
The 'Kristian Thorden' carried a crew of 33 and 10 passengers and a cargo of wood pulp and chemicals.
Fire broke out amidstships and was got under control, but flames blazed up again a few hours later.
The engine room and lifeboats were reported to have been damaged.
