Scope and content

Kanji Harads (21) beams happily after he escaped to safety 19 hours after the Mikawa Explosion last Saturday afternoon, in the main tunnel of the Mikawa Coal Mine. He is seen being interviewed by pressmen after his miraculous escape from the mine tunnel with 23 other miners. The explosion which claimed the lives of more than 400 miners was postwar Japan's worst mine disaster.
