The Road Research Laboratory at Crowthorne, Berkshire is one of 15 such stations run by Britain's Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. The department aims at finding ways of reducing the frequency and severity of road accidents; facilitating traffic flow and planning and designing, constructing and destructing and maintaining roads with regard to economy, safety and durability.
