Scope and content

Ilyushin, son of the Soviet aircraft designer, who was stated to have made the first flight into space, three or four days before Gagarin made his flight. The report said Ilyushin's flight was hushed-up because he was in a mental hospital, out of his mind and a complete wreck. There was also a suggestion that only one flight was made and that Gagarin could merely have been a "stand-in" for the true spaceman, who was not in a fit condition to report on his experiences—a suggestion that was denied.
