Scope and content
When a director of a British precision engineering company was asked by his nine-year-old son to make him a pedal car, he decided to design and build a go-kart which would not only stand up to hard wear but would also incorporate special safety features.
So successful was the model that the the director decided to use it as a prototype for a child's vehicle which would be both safe and fast, and now, following a period of intensive development, the Roy Cooper Speedster has been marketed.
The Speedster, which incorporates most of the features of a real go-kart can reach speeds of up to 20 miles per hour, can "drift" like a racing car when cornering at speed will not overturn and is fitted with a disc brake for maximum stopping power.
Available in range of bright colours, the kart can be fitted with one of three gearings to suit children in age groups from six to twelve. The pedal set can be adjusted as the child grows taller and longer and crank and chain sets can be pried for extra speed and acceleration as the driver becomes stronger and more competent.
