Bonn, West Germany: The man in civilian clothes in centre here is West German Defence Minister Kai-Uwe von Hassel with the resigned German Luftwaffe Chief Lieut. Gen. Werner Panitzki on left, and the newly-appointed West German Armed Forces Chief, General Ulrich Maiziere on right. They were reviewing troops at a Bonn Tattoo when the picture was taken on August 29th. Earlier that day, von Hassel had publicly defended his actions in the current military crisis and promised a further shake-up in the accident-ridden West German Air Force.
