The first thoroughbred Arab pony to be bred in Ceylon, was exhibited at the recent animal husbandry show held at the Nuwara Eliya racecourse. The pony's sire was Wi'am a former racer and the dam Najmat Babil, who was presented to the Ambawela Government by her owner, Mr. Vernon Rajapakse.
The pony who was born on November 6th, 1959, attracted much attention from racecourse owners and trainers in view of the prospects of breeding in Ceylon. The picture shows Mr. Vernon Rajapakse with the young pony.
