Scope and content
Built with the help of the GDR and Cuba, Ethiopia's biggest cement works, New Mugher, will take up production soon.
New Mugher has become a symbol in Ethiopia, not only for the efforts to develop an own industrial basis, but for successful economic cooperation with the GDR, too. The whole important equipment — from steel constructions to electric devices — is delivered by enterprises and partner works of the GDR's nationally-owned Ernest Thaelmann Heavy Engineering Combine (SKET). Still this year, New Mugher will start the production of 1,000 tons of cement per day. Compared with the present, Ethiopia's total output of this urgently needed building material will be increased nearly threefold after the completion of New Mugher.
