Scope and content
Scaffold and cranes mark the face of the Ethiopian capital in many places between the boroughs Arat Kilo and Bihere Tsige. In the next few years, some 20 million dollars are planned to be spent on the growth of Addis Ababa — especially on flats and streets, connections to the mains as well as on the extension of the town's sewerage system. As early as a few months after the deposal of the feudal-capitalist rule in September 1974, the revolutionary Ethiopian government started the struggle against housing misery. Passed in 1975, a law on the nationalisation of urban landed and apartmenthouse property was the basis of the struggle. Since that time, new houses for over 5,000 families have been built with financial support by the state in Addis Ababa alone.
