All smiles in the decompression chamber installed atop their escape shaft are the three miners rescued on November 1st from the air pocket 262 -ft below the surface of the flooded Mathilde iron-ore mine. On left is Mathilde pit boss, Paul Syska, who volunteered to go down in the torpedo-shaped rescue capsule to assist the trapped men to escape.
