Once again Olaf Ludwig from the GDR (2nd f.l./No.59) proved as a cyclist with supreme finish capacity. At the 11th and last stage from Lodz to Warsaw over 154 kilometers the 1982 Peace Cycle Race Winner and sixth-placed of the 1983 World Championships gained his fourth-stage-victory just out of the main bunch. Thus, Olaf Ludwig could yet win the third place in the individual total classification behind Sukhoruchenkov (USSR) and Staikov (Bulgaria). Olaf Ludwig is undoubtedly one of the most convincing cyclists of this heavy amateur race, which is called "inofficial stage-race world championships" by experts. Having participated in peace cycle races five times, the sympathic boy from Thuringia won altogether 21 stages and decorated himself at the end of this years' race with the pink jersey of the most many sided, the white jersey of the best on points and the violet jersey of the most active rider.
