The 31st Peace Cycle Race ended with Soviet victories in the individual and team classifications in Warsaw. 23 year old Alexander Averin (c.) won the 1978 Peace Cycle Race. his team mate Yuri Sakharov (l.) was second and Mircea Romascanu (r.) from Romania third. 90 cyclists from 15 countries started for the world's most difficult amateur stage race, but only 58 cyclists reached the finish after 12 legs with a total distance of 1,789.1 kilometers.
