The races on Berlin's indoor track are a cycling event with many years 'traditions and of great popularity. The exciting lap chases are held for the 31st time on the 171 metre long wooden oval with the 51 degree bends in Berlin's Werner Seelenbinder Hall. Nine GDR cyclists wearing the rainbow jerseys of the World Champions — three seniors and six juniors — together with GDR Top cyclists and guests from Bulgaria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland, the USSR, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Austria and Great Britain attract numerous cycling fans on altogether 18 evenings. However, the competitions on Berlin's indoor track are at the same time the first important preparation for the world championships in Switzerland.
