Forty members of the crew and ten passengers of the Flying Enterprise were recued after the vessel and become disabled in heavy Atlantic seas 250 miles west of the southern tip of Ireland. The master of the 6,711-ton Flying Enterprise, 37-year-old Captain Kurt Carlsen, refused to leave. He remains alone on board the ship.
