Christchurch, Hampshire: Four-days after setting out from Gosport, near Portsmouth, on the yacht Lamorna in search of Captain Kidd's treasure in the South China Seas, the skipper of the vessel, Captain Coumandoreas, wades ashore after making a salvage visit to the wreckage of the vessel. Earlier the fourteen men aboard the ship were rescued from their 49-year-old schooner off the Isles of Wight, after battered by gales, they had been taken in tow by the sloop Redpole.
Their dismasted yacht ran ashore at Beckton Bunny, near here.
