This was the CTB Colombo-Badulla Express that went down a precipice and came to rest by the side of a stream at Ganegama near the tenth mile post.
Killed in the mishap were the conductor B.H.W.W Silva of Badulla and a C.T.B driver (not the same one who was driving) M.S Indrawansa. Twelve passengers were seriously injured.
The Kahawatta Police found it difficult to control the crown that gathered to view the scene of the accident.
