Scope and content

Lifeboat wrecked as 49 die.
Rescue crew lost battling way to crippled cargo vessel.
Twenty bodies of the 49 lost in the worst double sea tragedy for many years have now been recovered. Forty one of those lost belonged to the 7,219 ton Samtampa, and the remaining eight were Mumbles Lifeboat men of the Edward, Prince of Wales, who died battling their way to the cargo ship, driven ashore on Sker Rock, Portheawl..The lifeboat had been missing since he put to sea last night and was found at dawn today battered and upturned, 200 yards from the cargo vessel. The Samtampa was on her way to Newport for dry-dock repair, and the Mumbles Lifeboat was launched at 6 O'clock last night to go to her assistance, as she was drifting in the Bristol Channel.. The wreckage and bodies were found this morning.
