Britain's newest cable ship, "Retriever", pictured here at Surrey Commercial Docks, London, England, is being prepared for her first working voyage, when she will lay the shore ends of a new telephone cable between the United States and Bermuda.
The nine million dollar cable laying project, a joint operation between Britain's Cable and Wireless (West Indies) Ltd., and the American Telephone Company, is expected to be ready for service towards the end of 1961.
When completed the new cable will have a capacity of 80 voice circuits.
