Scope and content
The French fishing vessel "Ben Hur" on a fishing trip to Newfoundland at 11 p.m. on June 9th, stuck an iceberg 150 miles off Newfoundland. The vessel was dismasted and totally disabled and leaking badly and drifting on thick fog for 2 days and 3 nights while the crew manned the pumps. Soon after 5 a.m. on the third night the liner "Duchess of Bedford", forced off her course by icebergs, sighted the "Ben Hur" and 34 members of the crew were taken aboard. Before leaving the vessel they set the "Ben Hur" alight, to prevent her becoming a danger to navigation. The crew are now on their way home to France expecting to land at Liverpool on Saturday.
