Scope and content

Three boats in Thames collision -men leap from sinking tug.
Two men were rescued from the River Thames off Greenwich Pier, London, after a motor-ship, a pleasure-boat and a tug had been involved in collision. The tug "Gusty" was towing a spirit barge up river when it came into collision with the stern of the motor-ship "Daniel M" (448 tons). The bows of the "Gusty" were badly damaged and she began to sink, eventually having to be beached. Two of the three men on board her leaped into the water while the third managed to cling to a rope and pull himself on to the "Daniel M".
A small Thames pleasure-boat which came racing to the men's assistance, was then struck by the "Gusty" as the tug swung around. She managed, however to pick up the two men and get to shore.
