B. R. Knight (Essex) was born in Chesterfield on February 18tn, 1938. He is at 23 years, the youngest member of the touring M.C.C. team.
Like his county team-mate Trevor Bailey, Knight is a competent all-rounder. But unlike Bailey he is a forceful batsman. He bowls pace.
He was awarded his county cap in 1959, when he narrowly missed the double; capturing more than 100 wickets but failing to reach a 1000 by five runs.
He was one of the 12 from whom England's first Test team was chosen this year against Australia, but failed to find a pace in the final XI.
Shortly afterwards, he hit one of the fastest centuries of the season when he scored 120 runs in 85 minutes.
He is expected to be one of the successes on tour.
