Space Veteran -- President Ronald Reagan congratulates John Young as Vice President George Bush affixes the Congressional Space Medal of Honor around his neck at the White House in Washington. Young, commander of the Space Shuttle Columbia on its maiden flight, also wears the Distinguished Service Medal presented to him and to crew member Robert Crippen. In a career spanning two decades, John Young completed a record five missions into space. These included Apollo-16 in 1972, the last manned lunar landing.
