Scope and content
Astronaut crews for the first three Apollo manned flights are now in training. Walter Schirra will be pilot for the first manned test of the Apollo capsule, scheduled to be launched atop a Saturn I rocket this summer. Donn Eisele and Walt Cunningham will fly with him. James McDivitt will head the crew for the first manned test of the giant Saturn V rocket, set for late 1968. Joining him will be David Scott and Russel Schweickart. Frank Borman, command pilot, and Michael Collins and William Anders are assigned to second Saturn V launch, expected by early 1969. All three flights will be Earth-orbital tests of the equipment techniques to be used in later trips to the Moon.
