These astronauts, (from left to right) Command Module Pilot Stuart A. Roosa (37), Commander Alan B. Shepard, Jr. (47) and Lunar Module Pilot Edgar D. Mitchell (40) are the ones who are going to the moon tomorrow, from Cape Kennedy, Florida. They are leaving on 31st evening, EST (1.53 a.m. on February 1st, IST). Command Module will be orbiting the Moon from 12.31 p.m on February 4th to 7.07 a.m on February 7th. The lunar module will land on the Moon on February 5th, 2.46 p.m IST. The return journey will start on February 7th, at 12.17 a.m. and the module will leave the orbit of the Moon on the same day at 7.07 a.m. They will land on Pacific Ocean on February 10 at 2.33 a.m. Shepard and and Mitchell will set foot on the Moon, while Roosa orbits around the Moon. They will land on Fra Mauro, a mountainous area. The main objective of the journey is to collect rock and soil samples, installing experimental instruments, conducting scientific experiments and improving facilities to work while staying on the Moon. The instruments will be carried by a portable small carrier.
