Scope and content
The annual perahara held at the end of Mahiyanganaya Festival was commenced this year as well, following the traditional customs. The Vedda people that participate in Adivasi perahara, apply honey and cotton on their bodies a few hours earlier. Afterwards, they cover themselves in banana leaves and hoot loudly at the crack of the dawn. This is followed by circumambulating thrice around the 'Devalaya' next to 'Miyuguna Seya', and dancing in front of the 'Seya'. This is how the perahara begins, with them holding tall poles and hooting.
