A water-logged tail-plane (at left) that tells the story of the Boston harbour air crash in the US. Sixty-two people were killed as the Eastern Airlines Lockheed Electra hurtled to its doom. The 11 survivors were seriously injured. The crash was believed to be one of the worst air disasters in the history of the US. The four engine plane, said by an airlines official to be "fully loaded", sank in 20 feet of water in minutes. Temporary morgues were set up at the yacht club, and state police appealed to skin-divers to help locate the bodies. One witness said the plane seemed to split apart as it crashed into the water sending up huge clouds of spray. Many of the dead were found by skindivers strapped down in their seats in the oily water of the harbour.
