20,000 Addis Ababa children gathered at the national stadium of the Ethiopian capital for a manifestation on occasion of the International Year of the Child. In the presence of head of state and government Mengistu Haile Mariam and more representatives of the revolutionary state leadership, they presented a programme of sportive, folk and cultural performances demonstrating the willingness of the young generation of the country to comprehensively prepare for their future active participation in the socialist construction of their homeland. On the same day Mengistu Haile Mariam laid the foundation stone for a children's recreation centre.
