History
The Ceylon National Library Services Board was set up in 1970, under Act No. 17 as a Statutory Agency under the Ministry of Education. Under tile Provisions of the Ceylon National Library Services Board Act the Board was empowered to: -
Plan and assist in the Promotion. Organisation and development of Library Services in the country and to advice and assist, publication of reading material and production of Audio-Visual Aids and to promote the development of Library education and training. Furthermore the board assists the Government in fixing the minimum academic and professional Qualifications for those employed in the library services for the general promotion of Library Service.
